Licensing In Private Network

About on-premises licenses

From TestEngine 1.28 Release and onwards, ID-based licenses are controlled by the License Servers hosted on your premises. Once configured correctly, TestEngine connects to this server to check whether a license is available. Once a license is available, it will be requested, assigned, and installed.

The license type name – on-premises – indicates that the license is controlled by a server running on your private network. This is contrary to the license type – online, which means the license is controlled by the SmartBear license server available online. SmartBear is planning to provide support for online licensing in TestEngine in 2023.

Notes

  • The license installed on the On-Premises License Server is bound to that machine through a fingerprint exchange process. (Currently the default SmartBear ID-based license option for TestEngine, available from Version 1.28).

To move and use the license on another computer, you need to uninstall it on the current one. Review the documentation on uninstalling the on-premises License.

  • Support for online licenses, where TestEngine can use the license directly from manage.smartbear.com, will be available later in 2023.
