Using TestLeft With Remote Desktop Services

Applies to TestLeft 15.40, last modified on March 17, 2022

This page is related to key-based licenses — a regular license type. For information on the new ID-based license type, see SmartBear ID-based Licenses.

You may use TestLeft in server-based (or Citrix) environments: you may install TestLeft on a server, open several user sessions on this server, for instance, with the Remote Desktop service, and use TestLeft in these user sessions. That is, you can use TestLeft installed on a powerful server from “weak” workstations (“thin clients”).

The number of TestLeft instances that can be run in sessions depends on your license.

  • If you have a Node-Locked license, then only one TestLeft instance can run on your computer at a time. So, you can use TestLeft in one user session only.

  • If you have a Floating User license, the number of TestLeft instances that can run concurrently is specified by the license key. You will not be able to use more instances than the number specified by the key.

If you are going to create and run tests via Remote Desktop connections, we recommend that you use a Floating User license on the server for the desired number of TestLeft instances.

To run automated tests in several user sessions on a server, you also can use TestExecute or TestComplete licensed with a Floating User license.
