This page is related to key-based licenses — a regular license type used in TestExecute 15.40. For information on the new ID-based license type, see SmartBear ID-based Licenses.
To manage licenses, TestExecute uses the following modules and subsystems:
-
TestExecute license management subsystem.
-
Sentinel LDK License Manager service.
-
(Optionally) Standalone License Manager utility.
The license management subsystem and the service are always installed with TestExecute.
They are used to search for activated licenses when TestExecute starts and during the TestExecute session. On the computer where a license is activated, these modules also manage license usage. We call them License Manager.
License Manager PC
The computer where you activate your license and that controls the license usage is called the License Manager PC (in other words, this is the computer where the License Manager is running).
Sentinel LDK License Manager Service
The License Manager uses the Sentinel LDK License Manager service for all operations over the licenses: activating, running, updating and moving.
For TestExecute to start, this service must be running both on the License Manager PC and on the workstations on which TestExecute is running. The service must also be running during the whole TestExecute session as TestExecute may send requests to the License Manager during the run.
To determine whether this service is running, click Start, click Control Panel, then click Administrative Tools > Services, and check whether the Sentinel LDK License Manager service is running.
If the service does not start or if it is not in the list, see Cannot Connect to the Sentinel LDK License Manager Service on Your Computer.
Using Multiple License Keys on One License Manager PC
There are some limitations on using multiple licenses on one License Manager PC. For more information on this, see Activating Multiple Licenses on One License Manager PC.
