WhatsApp Alerts

Last modified on July 16, 2026

AlertSite can send WhatsApp notifications to mobile devices using a WhatsApp-enabled phone destination. Use WhatsApp alerts to deliver real-time incident notifications directly to on-call engineers and incident commanders.

Prerequisites

Before configuring WhatsApp alerts, make sure the following requirements are met:

  • SMS recipient credits must be available in your account. WhatsApp notifications consume SMS-class credits.
  • The destination phone number must be entered in E.164 format (country code followed by number, for example, +12025550100).
  • Your organization must allow business messaging to the destination country or region.

Business configuration guidance

Follow these recommendations to get the most from WhatsApp alerts:

  • Reserve WhatsApp alerts for on-call engineers and incident commanders.
  • Keep alert thresholds strict for high-priority monitors to avoid delayed incident response.
  • Pair WhatsApp with email or Microsoft Teams for wider visibility during active incidents.
  • Monitor SMS credit usage regularly, as WhatsApp notifications consume SMS-class credits.
Note: WhatsApp notifications use SMS-class credits. Make sure your account has sufficient credits before enabling WhatsApp alerts for multiple recipients.
