Unable to Activate the Trial License

Applies to TestExecute 15.40, last modified on March 25, 2022

This page is related to key-based licenses — a regular license type used in TestExecute 15.40. For information on the new ID-based license type, see SmartBear ID-based Licenses.

TestExecute licenses, including Trial licenses, must be activated before using them. If TestExecute fails to activate your Trial license, it will display this error message. This can happen if the license data that came from your TestExecute instance is invalid.

The most likely, the reason for this is that you renamed the TestExecute installation package downloaded from the SmartBear website. The Trial license data is encoded in the file name. Renaming breaks it. That is why the installation notes ask users not to rename the downloaded installation package.

To solve the problem, request another Trial license. You can do this by clicking the appropriate button in the message window, or by repeating the download from the SmartBear website.
