Requirements for Running Tests in CrossBrowserTesting Environments

Applies to TestComplete 14.60, last modified on April 22, 2021
This topic describes how you can connect to the CrossBrowserTesting.com service by using the CrossBrowserTesting manager. This method of integrating with CrossBrowserTesting.com is deprecated starting with TestComplete 14.40. We recommend using the Device Cloud add-on instead. See About Cross-Platform Web Tests for details.

To run TestComplete tests in CrossBrowserTesting environments, you must have:

  • An active CrossBrowserTesting account that includes support for TestComplete.

You need such an account to run tests. It is not needed for configuring test runs.

If you have an account, use it to log in to CrossBrowserTesting.com from TestComplete. Use the email and password of your account or subaccount.

If you do not have an account:

    • You can sign up for a free trail directly from TestComplete – TestComplete will automatically suggest that you do this if it does not find the appropriate account data when you start a test.

    • You can purchase a CrossBrowserTesting account with TestComplete support. To do it, contact the SmartBear Sales Team. You can find an email address in the dialogs that TestComplete displays when it asks you to specify an account.

CrossBrowserTesting accounts are typically time-limited. Also, they limit the number of concurrent test runs, the number of test minutes and the number of allowed subaccounts. You can find complete information on this on your account page of the CrossBrowserTesting web site.

  • An active license for the Web module of TestComplete.

Web module plugins must also be enabled in TestComplete.

  • A network connection to CrossBrowserTesting.com

The computer where you will configure and run tests in the CrossBrowserTesting cloud must have access to the CrossBrowserTesting.com web site. Firewalls and proxies running in your network should allow this computer to connect to that web site.

Configure your firewall to allow outbound connections on ports 80 and 443 to crossbrowsertesting.com.

If you use Windows Firewall, you can create outbound rules that will allow connections on the needed ports.

    See Instructions

  • A connection from CrossBrowserTesting.com to your tested web application.

If your tested web server resides in your local network or on your local computer, or if you want to route traffic to your tested web application through a remote proxy server:

    1. Update your tests so that they could access your tested web application from CrossBrowserTesting environments:

Preparing TestComplete Tests That Work With Local Network Resources

    2. Establish a local connection (an encrypted tunnel) between your application and the CrossBrowserTesting cloud.

To learn how to do it from TestComplete, see:

Configuring Connection to the Tested Web Site

To learn how to do it manually, see:

Local Connection section in the CrossBrowserTesting documentation
