Unable to Activate Two Licenses on the Same License Manager

Applies to TestComplete 15.70, last modified on December 17, 2024

This page refers to key-based licenses — a legacy license type used in TestComplete until version 15.48. For information on the current, ID-based license type, see SmartBear ID-based Licenses.

If you try to activate a TestComplete license on a License Manager PC where another license is already active, the License Manager will either allow or disallow you to do this, depending on which license type you have. The following licenses cannot be activated if another license is already active, as the existing license data will be overwritten with the new data:

  • A Node-Locked license cannot be activated if another Node-Locked license with the same set of features is active.

  • A Node-Locked license cannot be activated if a Floating User license is active and vice versa.

  • A trial license cannot be activated if a commercial license is active.

  • A subscription license cannot be activated if a perpetual license is active.

  • A subscription license cannot be activated if a subscription license with another expiration date is active.

  • No license can be activated if a subscription license is active.

If the License Manager detects that the new license cannot be activated due to the existing license, it displays an error message notifying you about the problem. To avoid the problem, choose another License Manager PC, or use a compatible license type.

For more information on activating multiple licenses, see Activating Additional Licenses.
