Message - Unable to record a gesture ... (Legacy)

Applies to TestComplete 15.73, last modified on March 04, 2025
The information below concerns legacy mobile tests that work with mobile devices connected to the local computer. For new mobile tests, we recommend using the newer cloud-compatible approach.

TestComplete displays this message in the following cases:

  • You are trying to start recording a multi-touch a gesture on a mobile device that does not support multi-touch events.

Recording of multi-touch events differs from recording regular user actions on a mobile device's screen. Some devices do not support this kind of events and, therefore, cannot be used for gesture recording. Typically, this cannot be done on virtual machines running on a PC. Due to their nature, they do not support complex events that include several concurrent touches of the screen and several concurrent movements.

To record a multi-touch event (a gesture), use a device that supports these events. Typically, this is some physical mobile device.

  • You are trying to record a gesture on a mobile device running in a mobile device cloud. Such devices do not support multi-touch events.

  • You started gesture recording after you started simulating a gesture on the device.

TestComplete records a gesture correctly only if you started performing the gesture on the device after you started recording this gesture. Else, the recorded collection of events will not be valid.

For complete information on gesture recording, see Recording Gestures (Multi-Touch Events) (Legacy).
