Let’s configure the added DataSource test step to use a text file as a data source.

  1. Select the File data source.

Functional API testing: Select the File data source

Click the image to enlarge it.

  2. Download sample.txt to use it as a data source.

  3. Click Browse and specify the downloaded file.

  4. ReadyAPI offers you to import properties. In this tutorial, we will add them manually, so click No.

  5. The data source already contains the email property. Click to add the Expected name property.

Functional API testing: Add a data source property

Click the image to enlarge it.

  6. In the sample file, we use the colon symbol as a separator, so enter ":" in the Separator field.

Functional API testing: Specify the separator symbol

Click the image to enlarge it.

  7. To test whether the data source is configured correctly, click and specify a certain amount of rows to get.

When you test the data source, it assigns the obtained value to its properties. You will need it later in the tutorial.

ReadyAPI shows obtained values in the Data Log:

Click the image to enlarge it.

After you make sure that the data source works correctly, you can configure the test step to use that data.
