Deactivating Fixed Licenses on Headless Machines

Applies to ReadyAPI 3.52, last modified on April 18, 2024
Important Notice for ReadyAPI Customers

ReadyAPI has moved to SmartBear License Management and from October 2023, file-based licensing will be retired. As of September 2023, all licenses issued for your subscription term will be ID-based licenses by default. If you are not currently on ID-based licensing, it's time to migrate immediately. File-based licensing will no longer be supported as of October 2023. This means that technical support requests related to file-based licensing will not be accommodated. If you encounter technical issues that you're unable to resolve, it could lead to service interruption. For customers still in the process of migration, we recommend reaching out to your Account Manager to discuss your migration plan. Alternatively, you can log a support request with our Customer Care Team for assistance.

You can deactivate licenses on headless machines by using a command-line license manager.

  1. Download the License Manager packaged application from the SmartBear website.

Note: The License Manager requires Java 12. You can use Java shipped with ReadyAPI or download the required version from https://jdk.java.net/archive/.
  2. Run the License Manager .bat (or .sh on Linux and macOS) file with the -x option.

    • If you use Java shipped with ReadyAPI, perform the following commands:

      cd <ReadyAPI directory>\jre\bin
      <path to license manager>\license-manager.bat -x
    • If you use Java 12 installed in your operating system, perform the following command:

      license-manager.bat -x
  3. The License Manager will ask you to select the product license you want to deactivate. Specify the product by entering the relevant number.

  4. Confirm that you want to deactivate the selected license.

  5. The License Manager will ask you to choose the deactivation mode (Online or Offline).

    • If your computer can access https://deactivation.smartbear.com, enter 1 to select online deactivation.

    • If your computer does not have an Internet connection, enter 2 to select offline deactivation.

Online deactivation procedure

If you select online deactivation, the License Manager will complete the deactivation procedure. You will not have to do anything else.

Offline deactivation procedure

If you select offline deactivation, the License Manager will display text like this one:

Product: ReadyAPI Test
Activation Key: LHNVD-7LRXW-95YKB-LC5WM-97NTE
Deactivation Key: 87NT6-43XNJ-VE73X-E4VWB-DE8FG

Please go to offline activation/deactivation page and choose the ‘Deactivate License’ action. The SmartBear license service will deactivate your license.
