Oracle JDK license update

Important

Oracle has recently changed the licensing terms for Java Standard Edition 17.0.13 or later (required by Zephyr). Following is a detailed summary of the impact and what Zephyr is doing about this:

Note

Java embedded with Linux OS distribution will not work with Zephyr.

  • Oracle JDK 17.0.13 is not available for commercial use under Oracle’s Binary Code License Agreement (BCLA). If you intend to use it in a production environment, you will need to obtain a commercial license from Oracle. Alternatively, you may consider using OpenJDK, which is an open-source alternative to Oracle JDK.

  • Remember to keep your JDK up to date for security and performance improvements. For further details, refer to the official release notes.

  • We recommend using OpenJDK to avoid potential vulnerability and additional costs to our customers.
