VirtServer Licenses

Important Notice for VirtServer Customers
ReadyAPI has fully transitioned to the ID-based SmartBear License Management (SLM) system. We are now moving into the final phase of the deprecation of file-based licenses. Customers still using file-based licensing must plan for migration to SLM before September 30, 2025.
If you are in the process of migrating or have not started yet, contact your Account Manager or SmartBear representative today. Our teams are ready to assist with smooth transition strategies. For additional support, log a request with our Customer Care Team, who are standing by to help.
For more information and timelines, refer to the File-Based License End-of-Life Policy.
To use VirtServer, you need a trial or commercial license. Contact your SmartBear Representative to obtain a license.
VirtServer, from version 3.16 onwards, uses two types of license:
SmartBear ID-based - From September 2025, file-based licensing will be fully replaced by SmartBear ID-based licensing - SmartBear ID-based licenses are a new proprietary license management option we started using in ReadyAPI 3.8.1. It is more reliable and convenient than the license type used in the previous product versions. To run the product, a user needs to specify their access credentials based on the location of the License Server, with options for connecting to the SmartBear-hosted licensing server or an on-premise-hosted licensing server.
File-based - These licenses involve using a SmartBear license file. You apply that file on your computer to activate the license, or consume the license from the license server running in your network, which is licensed with this file.
