Installing Remote Agent

Applies to LoadComplete 4.97, last modified on May 20, 2019

LoadComplete Remote Agent is a utility that simulates virtual users. You can install the utility on remote workstations separately from LoadComplete to simulate virtual users there.

System Requirements

Minimum System Requirements
  • Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz or higher.

  • 4GB of RAM.

  • 30MB of disk space.

Recommended System Requirements
  • Intel Core i7 with 4 or more cores.

  • 16GB of RAM or more.

Supported Operating Systems

Both 32-bit and 64-bit editions (if any) of the following operating systems:

  • Windows 10
  • Windows 8 and 8.1
  • Windows 7 with Service Pack 1
  • Windows Server 2016
  • Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
Network Connections
  • Remote workstations must have network access to the Master station (the computer where LoadComplete is installed and from which you are going to control load testing) and to the tested Web sites.

  • If you use a firewall, make sure that Remote Agent is allowed through it. See LoadComplete and Windows Firewall.

  • To interact with LoadComplete and to simulate virtual users, the Remote Agent utility uses ports from the range 55937–65535:

    • It uses one port per one hundred simulated virtual users.

    • If a port from the range is not available, Remote Agent skips it and uses the next available port.

Make sure that the ports are available to Remote Agent. See LoadComplete and Windows Firewall.

User Permissions

You must have administrator permissions on the workstation where you are going to install LoadComplete Remote Agent or perform other installation-related tasks, such as repairing the Remote Agent installation or uninstalling Remote Agent. That is, you must be logged in as an Administrator or be a member of the Administrators group on that workstation.

To use Remote Agent, administrator permissions are not required.

LoadComplete Version

We recommend that you use the Remote Agent version and build that matches your LoadComplete version and build. Differences between them may cause issues in tests and with data transfer.

Downloading the Remote Agent Installation Package

If you have a commercial license of LoadComplete, you can get the Remote Agent from the My SmartBear portal:

  • Log in to the portal (you will need your customer id and password. You can find them in the email you got from SmartBear after purchasing the product):

    http://my.smartbear.com/

  • Navigate to the LoadComplete 4 page.

  • Click the LoadComplete Remote Agent Service link.

If you have a trial license of LoadComplete, you can download the Remote Agent from this web page:

http://support.smartbear.com/downloads/loadcomplete/

Installation

Run the installation program and wait until all the required files are extracted. The installation wizard will guide you through the installation process. The Remote Agent will be installed as a service.

Once the installation is complete, Remote Agent will run automatically.

For information on how to install Remote Agent in silent mode, see Installing LoadComplete and LoadComplete Remote Agent in Silent Mode.

Note: You do not need to activate the Remote Agent. You can install and run it on as many computers as you need.

You cannot install the Remote Agent on the computer where LoadComplete is already installed, since the Remote Agent is embedded in LoadComplete.

Considerations for Using LoadComplete Remote Agent

  • We recommend that you use the Remote Agent version and build that matches your LoadComplete version and build. Differences between them may cause issues in tests and may affect data transfer.

  • Some antivirus applications trace port activities and may consider Remote Agent a virus or trojan application. To avoid this, you need to add Remote Agent to the antivirus’s list of trusted applications. For more information, see LoadComplete and Antivirus Software.

  • If Windows Firewall is running on a remote workstation, you need to allow the Remote Agent through the firewall in order for it to function properly. For more information, see LoadComplete and Windows Firewall.

  • When a proxy server is applied to your network, to allow Remote Agent to perform network activity:

    1. Specify proxy settings for LoadComplete on the master computer (the one from which you control the test runs).

    2. Enable the Use proxy settings for remote agents option to command all the remote agents that simulate virtual users in your load tests to use the same proxy.
