Message - The project_name project cannot be run because there are no selected test items to be run

Applies to TestExecute 15.40, last modified on March 25, 2022

Description

When you command the test engine to run a project, it runs test items defined in this project. Test items specify individual tests to be executed when the test engine runs the project (see below). If the project does not contain selected top-level test items or if it does not have any test items at all, the test engine is unable to run the project and it displays this message to inform you about the problem.

Solution

For the test engine to be able to run a project, the project must contain selected test items. To change the test items’ settings, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open your test project in TestComplete.

  2. Open the Execution Plan editor of the project. To do this:

    • Select View > Organize Tests from TestComplete’s main menu.

    -- or --

    • Right-click the project in the Project Explorer panel.

    • Choose Edit > Execution Plan from the context menu.

Here is a sample view of the page:

Click the image to enlarge it.

  3. If the editor contains test items, select top-level test items to be run.

If the editor does not have any test items on it, add one or more test items to the project.

For detailed information on how to do this, see the description of the page in the TestComplete help file. You can open it by pressing F1 in the page.
