Warning on Activating the License on a Virtual Machine

Applies to TestExecute 15.40, last modified on March 25, 2022

This page is related to key-based licenses — a regular license type used in TestExecute 15.40. For information on the new ID-based license type, see SmartBear ID-based Licenses.

TestExecute shows a warning if you are trying to activate your license on a virtual computer.

We do not recommend that you activate your license on virtual computers.

Licenses activated on a virtual computer will be bound to the virtual computer’s MAC address and to the host computer (the computer on which your virtual computer is running). If at least one of them changes (for example, if you assign another MAC address to the virtual computer or move the computer to another host computer), the license will be blocked. You will not be able to use it.

If you need to run TestExecute in a virtual environment, we recommend that you use the following approach:

  • Activate your license on a physical computer.

  • Install TestExecute instances on virtual computers.

  • Make sure that the virtual computers are connected to your local network and have access to the physical computer on which you activated the license.

To activate your license on a virtual computer anyway, click Activate. To close the wizard without activating the license, click Cancel.
