What Happens?
TestComplete shows this message when it is opening a project item created in an earlier TestComplete version and when the format is not compatible with the format adopted in TestComplete 15.73.
Developers improve the format of project files, and it is quite possible that some files created in earlier TestComplete versions may be incompatible with the version you are using. When TestComplete detects a legacy file format, it suggests converting it to the format adopted in the current version. Here are a couple of typical examples:
-
Example 1: TestComplete version 15 uses a new format of project files. When opening an existing project in TestComplete 15, the latter asks for your permission to convert the project. Now imagine that after converting and saving the project, you revert some project items from a source control system. If you open your project in TestComplete 15, you will see this message.
-
Example 2: You are trying to import a project item created in an earlier product version to a project that is open in a newer version you are currently using.
What to Do?
To use the project item in your version of TestComplete, you need to convert it. The conversion is automatic, so all you need to do is to approve it.
Important: The conversion makes the project item’s file incompatible with earlier versions of TestComplete. After converting, you will not be able to open it in earlier versions of TestComplete. We recommend that you create a backup of the file before converting it to a newer format.
The easiest way to do this is to copy the project item’s files to some folder on your hard drive. A project item may consist of several files (see Project and Project Suite Files). We recommend that you back up all the files that make your project item.
