Why is the message shown?

This message is displayed in any of the following cases:

  • The project suite or project you are opening in TestComplete is not a valid TestComplete project suite or project file.
  • The project suite or project you are opening in TestComplete refers to a file whose data cannot be used for the given TestComplete project item or its element.
  • The data of the file from which you are adding a project item or its element cannot be used for the given TestComplete project item or its element.
  • The specified file does not exist.

Workarounds

Try the following:

  • Make sure that the project suite or project you are opening is created with the same TestComplete version as your current one or earlier.

  • Make sure that the project suite file (.pjs) or the project file (.mds) is not missing or corrupted.

  • Make sure that the problematic file is not missing and is valid. Navigate to the file path that the error message shows and make sure that the file is there and is not corrupted.

  • If the file is missing or corrupted, and if you use a source control system to manage your TestComplete projects, you can try to restore the file from a revision stored by your source control system.
