Upgrading From Previous Versions

If you have a maintenance subscription, you can upgrade your previous version of TestComplete to new 14 version for free. Otherwise, you can upgrade to new version 14 by paying part of the full price. For information on upgrade offers, please contact SmartBear Sales Team.

A license for new TestComplete versions and a link to the TestComplete installation package are available on the TestComplete product page of the My SmartBear section of our website. If you have a maintenance subscription, they are added to your account automatically when the new TestComplete version is available.

  1. Download the TestComplete installation package and install the new version of TestComplete on the needed computer (or computers). See Updating TestComplete.

    We recommend that you go through the steps described in the Migrating Projects Created in Earlier Versions to TestComplete 14 section.

  2. Get the license and active it on the needed computer:

    • If you have a Node-Locked license, activate it on the computer where TestComplete is installed.

      Note: When you launch TestComplete after installation, it will connect to the SmartBear website to automatically update your license to the new version. If the update is available (this is possible, for instance, if you have an active maintenance subscription), TestComplete will show a message suggesting that you activate the new license key.
      If TestComplete fails to update the license (this can happen, for example, if TestComplete cannot access the SmartBear website or if no updates are available for your license), you will have to get and activate the new license key manually.

    • If you have a Floating User license, active it on your License Manager PC.
