To activate and control licenses, Sentinel License Manager uses the following modules and subsystems:
-
The TestComplete license management subsystem.
-
Sentinel LDK License Manager service.
-
(Optionally) Standalone License Manager utility.
The license management subsystem and the service are always installed along with TestComplete.
They search for activated licenses when TestComplete starts and during TestComplete sessions. On the computer where the license as activated, these modules also manage the license usage.
The computer where your license is activated and which controls the license usage is called the License Manager PC.
If you have a Floating User license, you can install the standalone License Manager utility on a computer where TestComplete is not installed. That is, you can install and run License Manager independently of TestComplete.
In this case, the License Manager PC will differ from the computer where TestComplete is installed.
If you have a Node-Locked license, the License Manager PC is the computer on which TestComplete is installed. The License Manager allows running TestComplete on this computer only.
Sentinel LDK License Manager Service
Both Node-Locked and Floating User licenses use the Sentinel LDK License Manager service for license management (activating, running, updating and moving).
The service is used for all operations over the licenses: activating, running, updating and moving.
This service must be running in order for TestComplete to be able to start. It also must be running during the whole TestComplete session as TestComplete sends requests to the License Manager during the run.
If you use a Floating User license, this service must be running both on the License Manager PC and on the workstations, on which TestComplete is running.
To determine whether this service is running, click Start, click Control Panel, then click Administrative Tools > Services, and check whether the Sentinel LDK License Manager service is running.
