Warning on Activating the License on a Virtual Machine

Applies to TestComplete 14.0, last modified on January 23, 2019

If you try to activate your license on a virtual computer, the License Management wizard will display a warning.

We do not recommend that you activate your license on virtual computers.

A license activated on a virtual computer will be bound to the virtual computer’s MAC address and to the host computer (the computer on which your virtual computer is running). If at least one of them changes (for example, if you assign another MAC address to the virtual computer or move the computer to another host computer), the license will be blocked. You will not be able to use it.

If you need to run TestComplete in a virtual environment, we recommend that you use the following approach:

  • Obtain a Floating User license of TestComplete. If you have a Node-Locked license, upgrade your license to a Floating User license.

  • Activate your license on a physical computer.

  • Install TestComplete on virtual computers.

  • Make sure that the virtual computers are connected to your local network and have access to the physical computer on which you activated the license.

To activate your license on a virtual computer, click Activate. To close the wizard without activating the license, click Cancel.
