Requirements for Testing Web Services

Applies to TestComplete 14.0, last modified on January 23, 2019

This topic describes the requirements that should be met in order for TestComplete to be able to test web services properly. If something goes wrong, check the requirements listed in the following sections:

Web Service Testing Plugins

TestComplete support for testing web services is provided by the following plugins:

  • Web Service Support

  • Web Services Editor

These plugins are installed and enabled automatically. Therefore, you can test web services out-of-the-box, without configuring anything.

You can check to see if these plugins are active by selecting File | Install Extensions from the TestComplete main menu. If one of these plugins is not available, you need to run the TestComplete installation in the Repair mode.

Note: To use the plugins, you must have a license for TestComplete Web module.

Supported Web Services, Protocols and Authentication Types

Network Connection

You need a functioning network connection to the tested web service. Else, TestComplete will be unable to simulate calls to the web service methods.

Requirements for Testing WCF Services

If you use the .NET API to call methods of the tested WCF services with TestComplete (when the Preferred Web Service API | .NET WCF option is enabled in it), you must have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or later installed on the computer where TestComplete is running.
