Licensing VirtServer

Applies to VirtServer 3.19.0, last modified on March 28, 2024
Important Notice for VirtServer Customers:

ReadyAPI has moved to SmartBear License Management. From September 2023, all licenses issued for your subscription term will be ID-based licenses by default. If you are not currently on ID-based licensing, it's time to migrate immediately. File-based licensing will no longer be supported as of October 2023. This means that technical support requests related to file-based licensing will not be accommodated. If you encounter technical issues that you're unable to resolve, it could lead to service interruption. For customers still in the process of migration, we recommend reaching out to your Account Manager to discuss your migration plan. Alternatively, you can log a support request with our Customer Care Team for assistance.

To use VirtServer, you need a trial or commercial license. Please contact your SmartBear Representative to obtain a license.

VirtServer, from version 3.16 onwards, uses two types of license:

  • SmartBear ID-based - From October 2023, file-based licensing will be fully replaced by SmartBear ID-based licensing - SmartBear ID-based licenses are a new proprietary license management option we started using in ReadyAPI 3.8.1. It is more reliable and convenient than the license type used in the previous product versions. To run the product, a user needs to specify their access credentials based on the location of the License Server, with options for connecting to the SmartBear-hosted licensing server or an onpremise-hosted licensing server.

  • File-based - These licenses involve using a SmartBear license file. You apply that file on your computer to activate the license, or consume the license from the license server running in your network, and that is licensed with this file.
